About Yesenia Gonzales
Yesenia Gonzalez Costilla is a native of San Benito who works at a local non-profit organization.
Her passion for helping others is the foundation for her volunteerism and advocacy.
She believes that God has a special purpose for everyone and that her purpose is to stand in solidarity with vulnerable populations, to be a voice for the voiceless, and simply love others as He has loved everyone.
Over the past 15 years, she has dedicated her time to various organizations in different capacities.
Those organizations include, the Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas, the San Benito Band Boosters, the Boys & Girls Club of San Benito, the San Benito Historical Society, Keep San Benito Beautiful and other civic groups.
Her love of music began at a young age with parents that raised her and her siblings in a musically diverse home.
Yesenia recalls many moments shared with her father listening to oldies and evenings at local dance halls as her dad sang onstage with La Distancia, a local Tejano band; as well as listening to a variety of Mexican genres, such as Mariachi and Rancheras, while cleaning (and sometimes dancing) with her mom.
Her appreciation for Conjunto music and its preservation has brought her to the Texas Conjunto Hall of Fame and Museum.
She believes that this special genre of music truly brings people together and promotes a happy heart, and she is excited for the opportunity to serve on this board.
Last, but not least, Yesenia expressed the importance of spending time with her family and shares that her favorite moments have been those spent with them, especially with her husband Damacio and fur-baby Kota.
